For children, of course, it’s no brainer and they will love Le Petit Train, but for adults too, it really is an underated way of explore the picturesque landscapes of Collioure and Port-Vendres.
Highlights of the tour include a stop at Fort Saint-Elme for breathtaking views and a route that passes through Port-Vendres, where passengers can enjoy the coastal and vineyard vistas, as well as brief stopa at the quays of Port Vendres before returning to Collioure.
Operating for over three decades, this tourist train was recently taken over by Jean-Louis Bros, and reasonably priced at 8€ per person, with free entry for children under four. The train operates from late March to the end of October, making it a seasonal attraction that captures the essence of the Côte Vermeille, so don’t give it a miss!
The 45-minute journey showcases the region's vineyards and historical monuments with audio commentary available in Dutch, German, Russian, Spanish, Italian, English and French.
It’s also now entered the 21st century and is officially safe - by reducing its capacity to 50% and installing compartmentalized wagons to accommodate mobility-restricted passengers, so you’ll be in safe hands.
For trainspotters, you’ll be interested to know that Le Petit Train is equipped with environmentally friendly technology including a 200 horsepower Euro 6D engine and four-wheel drive necessary for navigating the steep and challenging terrain of the Côte Vermeille.
