Hotel Madeloc Collioure Review

My quick hotel review for those in a hurry:

Hotel Madeloc is a classy discreet boutique hotel since 1963 with nicely updated rooms, a really nice pool, spa and terrace with great views of Collioure.

What’s it like?

Tucked away on a residential street is the Hotel Madeloc – a hotelier’s hotel – it just has that feel of a boutique hotel with little flourishes and little things that make it feel special.

It’s pricier than a lot of other hotels, but it’s also a different experience: a more sophisticated and adult experience – one of the hotel’s I’d proudly take my wife for a long weekend away in Collioure.

The rooms have a smart, upgraded feel with a quality bed and upholstery, a nice smell, and everything has been well thought through.

Other big pluses are of course, the pool and heated jacuzzi, the sun terrace and the hammam – it’s pretty much got it all – and of course the views from the terrace.

My Deep Dive Review of Hotel Madeloc Collioure

Hotel Madeloc Collioure Bedroom

Hotel Madeloc was founded by Marie-Jeanne Pouchairet-Ramona in 1963 in the trendy Le Rotin style and was, for many years, a family affair, with her daughter, Josette Pouchairet-Ramona and her husband Jean running Hotel Madeloc for over thirty years.

By the 2000s, the Hotel Madeloc was a little tired and need a major upgrade and inspiration. Fast forward to 2009 and Hotel Madeloc was acquired by an experienced hotelier who wanted to imprint his experience and style on the Collioure hotel scene.

After being closed for some time and fully upgraded from top to bottom, Hotel Madeloc was relaunched as a boutique spa hotel and it’s a really nice result: as you can see from the photos, the rooms are to a high spec, the bed linen is quality and everything has a nice feel – it screams quality.

Location-wise, it’s further up the hill from the beach and a good location for the train station – around 100 metres away.

It’s also really civilised to have a decent sized pool and sun terrace to chill at and perhaps have a gin and tonic before walking into town.

Last thing – it’s one of the only hotels that have apartments – 4 to be exact – so it’s worth noting if you’re looking for a family room, a Hotel Madeloc apartment might suit you well.

Hotel Madeloc Collioure Swimming Pool

What I liked about Hotel Madeloc:

This is a “grown up” hotel – it reminds me of boutique hotels in bigger towns – and is a nice hotel to impress and excite your partner – rather than a hum drum affair.

The breakfasts are some of the best in Collioure too – a lot of options, fresh and hygienic too – and I can imagine starting the day off with a swim in the pool, dry off by the terrace and then walk down for breakfast. This is the life!

What I liked less about Hotel Madeloc:

Hardly surprising, but the price – it’s a boutique hotel with a pool and spa – these things cost money!

Also, and we can’t avoid this, but it’s up a hill, so the walk back up after a long dinner, is a bit of a hassle, but then your body will thank you for doing a little exercise to get back up to the hotel!

Other than that, I thought that the Hotel Madeloc was an assured effort from an experienced hotelier.
