Les Roches Brunes Collioure
Hotel Review
My quick hotel review for those in a hurry:
Possibly the most exclusive and discreet hotel in Collioure, you may not even notice it’s there – unless you know – with a top restaurant called Mamma to boot as well.
What’s it like?
Try driving from Collioure to Port Vendres and see if you can spot Les Roches Brunes? I doubt you will and, anyway, you won’t be able to get in without a code number. Even I couldn’t get a code when trying to get in to the hotel. Someone came up to escort me since I wasn’t a guest – that’s how much the hotel values privacy and security for its guests.
Les Roches Brunes is one of Collioure’s hottest new hotel openings, having opened in 2021, and it has really brought something new to Collioure – a discreet, home-like boutique hotel, but with only the finest things and great service to match.
I think that Les Roches Brunes has really upped the ante on luxury hotels around here. The rooms, as you can see from my photos, are of a very high standard and simply have modern style and taste for the well-travelled and experienced guest that know great taste when they see it.
My Deep Dive Review of Les Roches Brunes Collioure Hotel
Les Roches Brunes started life as a family house over 80 years ago, then became a very average aparthotel in 1970 before it closed and was waiting for someone to do something amazing with it.
This came when a local Catalan family from Collioure rescued it from ruin and completely refurbished it before finally launching Les Roches Brunes in 2021.
They wanted to create a home-from-home and oasis for busy people who really wanted to relax and valued privacy at the same time. So, guests can enjoy anonymity and be themselves, but at the same time, can go into Collioure and enjoy the action before returning to tranquility whenever they want.
I would say “mission accomplished” – the interiors are really tasteful, the staff and service just right and I didn’t really want to leave.
Their restaurant, Mamma, is also a very good reason to stay. I would call it modern Mediterranean with a Catalan twist, think confit of sea bass, veal shank ravioli and local chanterelles, and roasted monkfish with porcini mushrooms.
The rooms are effortlessly stylish – see it for yourself in my rather amateur photos – but you can’t smell the room – it has a lovely light fresh aroma - I often find that hotels overlook the power of aromas, but Les Roches Brunes has not. They’ve thought of everything and no doubt if you wanted something, the hotel would find it find for you – it’s that kind of hotel.
Because this hotel has a lot of superlatives, I’ve neglected to really talk about the view, which is over the bay and with a full 180 degree view of Collioure – it’s beautiful and yet another plus for this hotel, which may be my favourite choice of hotel in Collioure.
Finally, there is also a nice outdoor shaded terrace and a path to bathe into the sea, though it’s important to note that there is no pool, but plenty of little private nooks to read and view the bay with perhaps a cocktail in hand.
What I liked about Les Roches Brunes:
I think this might just be favourite hotel in Collioure. They’ve done very well in thinking of everything and adding a completely new concept hotel to Collioure’s already rich tapestry of hotels.
How you are treated in a hotel is sometimes just as important as the hotel itself and I got a warm feeling that staff really care about the hotel and your experience.
For those who like privacy, they have plenty of guests in the public eye, this hotel is ideal as a bolthole away from the gaze of the public where they can be themselves and enjoy a break.
The food – the view – the service – the rooms – pretty much everything.
What I liked less about Les Roches Brunes:
Unsurprisingly, this is an expensive hotel and you would need to have plenty of cash to splash to enjoy this hotel, so you’ve been warned!
The location is very nice for its views and been away from the hustle and bustle of Collioure, but just remember that the walk back up to the hotel is up a hill after you’ve had a big supper in town with possibly a little to drink.
The car park is very small, so be careful as you need to be a rally driver to park in there.
