Le Relais de Trois Mas Collioure Hotel Review

My quick hotel review for those in a hurry:

A famed hotel and restaurant in Collioure, Le Relais des Trois Mas has some of the best views of Collioure from every hotel room, a Michelin starred restaurant, and a pool and terrace with direct access to the sea and an almost private beach.

What’s it like?

As one of Collioure’s foremost premier and luxury hotels, every local knows of Le Relais de Trois Mas, and it’s a luxury experience with a price to match.

For me, as a foodie, the greatest reason to stay there is the food – you can wander down to have lunch at their Michelin-starred restaurant, La balette, and the breakfast is a feast as well.

The rooms are nice and well presented, but I think it’s the views that win the competition.

The location is also further away from the hustle and bustle of Collioure, so you can enjoy the chilled holiday vibe at pool terrace, then join the fun in the centre of Collioure when you want.

My Deep Dive Review of Relais de Trois Mas Collioure Hotel

Relais de Trois Mas Bedroom

Le Relais des Trois Mas Hotel was founded in 1970 by the local Mas family, who transformed an old farm house into this unique hotel - the hundred year old pine trees are still dotted around the hotel – and it’s nice to see that the hotel is still family owned.

Since then, the hotel has been regularly updated and improved, so it has all mod cons you would want in a luxury hotel, but it’s also has a casual welcoming Catalan feel at the same time.

But, to be honest, what I’m really excited about is the cuisine. La Balette is one of those once in your life restaurants (or if you’re megabucks, just an average Friday night?) with long tasting menus and fine wines.

This restaurant's menu features a dizzy array of creative ingredients from Brussels sprouts, beetroot and root vegetables to sea urchin, mullet and scallops, along with bergamot, yuzu and Buddha’s hand.

Chef Laurent Lemal, already has a Michelin star under his belt, and is aiming for two stars – he’s certainly ambitious and creative, so I wouldn’t be surprised.

To be able to enjoy this kind of culinary feast experience and then be able to stay in a top class hotel and not have to even leave the compound, that’s got to be a good thing – if you can afford it.

Relais de Trois Mas Collioure Hotel Outdoor

What I liked about Relais de Trois Mas:

Did I mention the view?! It really has to be seen to be believed.

The beach also felt private because it’s rather hard to get to and you have to kind of know it’s there, so aside from some enthusiastic hikers with those walking sticks marching past, you won’t be disturbed when going for a paddle in the sea.

The food – I think I’ve probably written enough about this – but I only would like to add that they also do “normal” food as well – it doesn’t have to be Michelin-starred food on the terrace every day and the breakfast is classic, but well accomplished as you would imagine.

The rooms are nice, though I would not say they are the star of the show – they have everything you need and are of a good size – and being far enough from Collioure’s hordes, so that it’s quiet apart from the sound of the sea breeze.

What I liked less about Relais de Trois Mas:

Obvious to say, this is not an inexpensive hotel! Be prepared to hit your credit card hard on this stay at Relais de Trois Mas – embrace your inner oligarch!

The location is both a blessing and curse! It’s far from Collioure to be tranquil and relaxed, but also a ten minute walk down the hill, so just be prepared for some walking, which you will need after all this deluxe food!

As I said, the rooms are perfectly nice, but somehow I think they could be upgraded a bit more to complete its luxury feel.
