Princes de Catalogne Collioure Hotel Review
My quick hotel review for those in a hurry:
Tucked away, but super central, Princes de Catalogne is a Collioure family owned hotel that’s quiet, clean, reliable and affordable.
What’s it like?
Nicely located down a road off the main thoroughfare into Collioure, Princes de Catalogne is popular with the running community who often stay there on the famous 4-day Collioure to Cadaques tracks.
The rooms are classic and simply decorated rooms with everything you need for a great stay in Collioure for a good price along with nice bathrooms.
My Deep Dive Review of Princes de Catalogne Collioure Hotel
I found the staff at Princes de Catalogne very welcoming when I told them about this Collioure research project.
The owner, Herve Codine, introduced himself and proceeded to tell me the history of the building and his family with passion.
The Codine Family go way back in Collioure. Herve’s grandfather used to own the building many moons ago and, back then, they used it to sell locally caught fish there and, as he grew the business, his grandfather swiftly expanded to supply Collioure’s fish to restaurants across the South of France. He also became President of the USAP – Perpignan’s famous rugby club!
Then, in the 1980s, they sold the building to a casino who turned it into a casino and discotheque.
Finally, it went full circle when Herve Codine, the grandson, bought the building back in 2009 and proceeded to convert the building into a hotel with a full refurbishment.
Today, Herve continues his family’s rich fishing tradition and owns one of the biggest old-style Catalan anchovy boats in the harbour.
When speaking to Herve, you can tell the passion he has for Collioure and for his hotel. It had been a gargantuan job to convert this old building from what was a poissonerie, then casino discotheque, into a modern hotel!
This is a classic bed and breakfast that I recommend for those looking for good value, but also good quality accommodation that is central yet quiet.
What I liked about Princes de Catalogne:
I liked Herve – he was very free and passionate about his vocation (and hotels really are a vocation as they are almost a 24 hour business with almost no holidays!).
The rooms are quite ordinary looking, but they are modern, clean, quiet and have everything you need for a good rest along with a good quality breakfast.
What I liked less about Princes de Catalogne:
There’s very little to criticise apart from perhaps that the rooms don’t have too much character, but this is a quibble. The hotel will be ideal for many people and I recommend it.
