Grand Hotel du Golfe Collioure Hotel Review
My quick hotel review for those in a hurry:
A really classy art deco inspired modern hotel a short drive into Collioure with great views of the coast and some of the nicest rooms I’ve seen on this Collioure hotel review tour.
What’s it like?
First of all, spoiler alert! There is no golf course. The Golfe refers to the gulf shape of the coast close to the hotel. Also, it’s not strictly in Collioure, but on the road going up to Collioure and a five minute drive into town, which means you can enjoy peace at the pool and the gardens, then dip into the thick of the Collioure action whenever you want.
I really liked the art deco theme of Grand Hotel du Golfe and its minimalist style and modern rooms – one of the more up-to-date hotels in Collioure – and it’s got a rather nice spa too. It would ideal for conferences and weddings as well.
My Deep Dive Review of Grand Hotel du Golfe Collioure Hotel
Opened in 1971 as one of the area’s first modern luxury hotels, Grand Hotel du Golfe stood out for its modern and stylish art deco theme, which has it has continued to this day fifty years later.
But, the hotel’s owners since 2008, Marie and Jean-Michel Danoy, who have put a lot of work into upgrading it and bringing the hotel truly into the 21st century with rooms that I really liked – something just felt right – all with a beautiful sea view – and the little touches to the room – you can feel the passion from the hoteliers.
Some people would say that it’s a weakness not to be walkable into Collioure (though for those who like hiking, there’s a nice long walk into town), but I would say it’s one of its strengths. It’s quieter, calmer and has a luxury resort feel, most notably in the heated swimming pool and the luxury spa.
Having a heated swimming pool here is a rarity and major plus – particularly if you want a morning swim before breakfast.
What I liked about Grand Hotel du Golfe Collioure:
Sorry to keep on banging on about this, but the heated swimming pool is a huge plus in my book – there aren’t many heated swimming pools around here. I’m just not a fan of ice cold pools! The photos don’t do it justice since I viewed the pool area in Spring before they had fully opened the hotel.
I think it’s special because it’s just unlike any of the other hotels – it’s got a sort of stylish Mediterranean Talented Mr Ripley feel to it – and the most resort-style of all the hotels.
The rooms are well thought out and have a luxury “I’m on holiday” feel and the staff were friendly and truly hospitable – sadly not everyone who works in the world of hospitality are!
What I liked less about Grand Hotel du Golfe Collioure:
There’s not much that I didn’t like to be honest. I would very happily stay here and while away the hours by the pool and spa before enjoying a nice supper and a walk in Collioure.
My only serious criticism of it is that it’s not directly in Collioure and would be quite a hike to walk there!
